The once and future artist:

For those of you who have been waiting for more of Ray's work. good news-- she is back. This studio will be opening soon. In conjunction with the opening, look for a lot of new pieces to be featured at this site--the home of the new virtual gallery.

Ray has worked in three-dimensional items, as well as in two-dimensional, for almost 35 years. In the eighth grade, she was in the local newspaper for her artistic abilities. When in high school, her work was first published for illustration in a child's storybook about a horse.

Unlike many artists, Ray does not limit her art to a single medium or surface. Her work incorporates all mediums and varied surfaces. Her primary focuses are pottery and oil paintings. However, her artistic forays also include watercolors, pen and ink, pastels, chalk, and yes… there are even a few pieces of furniture with her designs on them!

In 1996, following a devastating house fire in which everything was lost, including her portfolio, Ray was forced to halt her art career and pursue a degree in another field. While in North Carolina, her work could be viewed at museum exhibits as well as in private collections in all 50 states and in at least 11 countries.

During the whirlwind 6 years that ensued, Ray juggled school, a divorce, and raising three children, but her heart remained in her artistic pursuits. In 2002, following a new marriage and several "life-defining" events, she has returned to her lifelong love of art.

For those of you who have been waiting for more of Ray's work... good news--She is back! And her new studio will be opening soon. In conjunction with the opening, look for lots of new pieces to be featured at this site--the home of her "virtual" gallery.

Artist's Statement:
I believe that the work I do should be for those who will be viewing it in the future.  My main interest is to create works which will withstand time so that if found in the future someone can glean information about my time period.

This results in my interest in doing the work that others need, therefore if there is anything that someone would like for me to try... I give it a shot... that way I represent more than just myself in my work.

Additional interests:  I love my horses and have also recently taken up acting in local theaters.  Whether it is to be a 2-play career or more... is yet to be seen.  For more on Atheena’s theater interests click here.
